Our club has been operating right here in Dawson Creek since our beginning in 1955, as the first and oldest club in British Columbia

Volunteer Operated
The Dawson Creek Speed Skating Club is entirely volunteer run. Our success depends on people being willing to help by serving on the board, or as other volunteers. Please speak with one of the board members to see how you might contribute to the ongoing success of the club.

Board of Directors
Each year, the club holds elections during the Annual General Meeting to fill volunteer positions on the 5-member Board of Directors. Each role has a term of 2 years, unless the individual decides to resign from their position. Positions on the Board are shown below, with brief descriptions of duties:
President: Chairs Board meetings, represents the club to other associations, ensures required tasks and activities are carried out.
Vice-President: Chairs Board meetings when President not available, fills in Presidential duties when necessary.
Treasurer: Keeps the club’s accounts in order, reports on club finances at board meetings, prepares and reports on budget and actual expenditures, prepares year-end financial report.
Secretary: Prepares meeting agendas and minutes.
Director: Assists with organization as necessary.

Volunteer Roles
Other important volunteer positions:
- Registrar: Prepares registration form, leads registration fee determination, records registration, liaises with BC Speed Skating Association regarding membership, sends out membership notices.
- City Liaison and Ice Coordinator: Coordinates ice time through City, liaises with City regarding ice time for regular practices and for meets, and for other facility needs.
- Coach Coordinator: Coordinates assignment of coaches to groups, works with coaches to develop coach develop plans, assigns coaches to meets.
- Meet Coordinator: Coordinates meets – local arrangements and meet volunteers.
- Officials Coordinator: connects with our certified officials for upcoming official training clinics, liaises with the ODC (Officials Development Committee)
- Social Media & Website Coordinator: manages our social media accounts, and keeps our website up to date
- Photographer: Liaises with our social media coordinator to ensure club photos are being used; often the photographer is also our social media coordinator to make it easier
These positions are sometimes held by Board Members, but also can be held by other club members. Each member will be also present at our AGM to give a report about the season
